Indigenous Cultural Services

Connecting youth & families to their Indigenous culture & communities

In Manitoba, almost 90% of kids in care are Indigenous

Cultural, community and family connections are critical to shaping a child's identity, and essential to healing. That's why MYS is committed to helping youth move forward with pride, resilience and confidence by also helping honour traditional ways of knowing and being.

Through partnerships with Elders, knowledge keepers, helpers, mentors and other community organizations, MYS offers inclusive cultural services such as:

  • traditional teachings & ceremonies
  • sharing circles
  • land-based therapy
  • holistic healing workshops
  • cultural skill builders (ie. medicine picking, pow wow dancing, regalia making)

Annually, MYS also hosts two large cultural gatherings:

  • Annual Winter Gathering
  • Aboriginal Day Pow Wow

Indigenous Awareness Training

MYS employees and volunteers participate in Medicine Circle teachings and holistic training opportunities that explore the Indigenous journey.
