The Mutchmor Program

The Mutchmor Program

Mutchmor is a six-bed community home for male youth between 12 and 17 years of age who have struggled to manage their aggressive behaviours in the community. The program works from a non-power based belief system with an emphasis on respect, cooperation and participatory decision making. The team focuses more on the future than the past, and highlights the areas of strength in the youth and their family.

The treatment team provides the opportunity for youth to

  • learn how to take responsibility for aggressive behaviours and attitudes
  • identify the connection between emotional state and aggressive behaviour
  • identify and express needs and feelings appropriately in the context of relationships and interactions with others
  • learn problem solving skills that help make good decisions
  • develop skills to manage at home, school and in the community in a socially appropriate manner
  • develop and engage in positive relationships
  • set goals and feel confident in their ability to successfully move forward

It is our belief that youth have the ability and the resources to solve their issues, but may be stuck in patterns of behaviour that are not helpful. All interventions attempt to provide opportunities for the youth and to develop legitimate ways to gain power and control in their lives.
