Downtown Biz Generously Funds Employment Project to Reduce Homelessness
The Positive Alternatives for Youth Program at Macdonald Youth Services received almost $30,000 this morning from Downtown Biz. The goal of the funding is to help reduce homelessness in Winnipeg by providing individuals with adequate housing, valuable work experiences, life experiences and training, while building self-confidence and self-sufficiency.
This funding will be used to hire six youth participants who will provide 1,800 hours of employment between April and October of this year. The youth will assist with the Downtown Biz’s farmers’ market and will also engage in downtown beautification projects like graffiti removal, assorted painting, garbage pickup and watering flowers.
