MACDONALD YOUTH SERVICES
Grand Opening of New Therapeutic Centre

Winnipeg, Manitoba, March 23, 2017 - Macdonald Youth Services (MYS) held a ribbon cutting ceremony today to celebrate the grand opening of their new therapeutic centre located at 175 Mayfair Avenue.

This state-of-the-art, 33,000-square-foot facility replaces older buildings and centralizes staff currently in locations throughout Winnipeg. One-third of the space is devoted to therapeutic programs such as art, music and cultural activities, as well as individual and family counseling. The facility is wheelchair accessible and includes classrooms, life skills training spaces and a teaching kitchen. More information is contained in the attached fact sheet.

As part of the ceremony, MYS announced it had raised over $2.8 million through its year-long capital campaign. All funds raised were through private donations. The total building costs for the facility were $7.5 million.

“We are grateful for the support and generosity of our donors who have taken the therapeutic centre from dream to reality. Society depends on well-educated, engaged and contributing young people. Our donors know this and we are very excited to open our doors to the youth and families who need our help,” says Dr. Erma Chapman, CEO, MYS.

A diverse group of over 100 guests attended the ceremony including donors, the MYS board of directors, media friends, and Jenny Gerbasi, city councillor for Fort Rouge - East Fort Garry. MYS programs will move into the new facility in the coming weeks.
