The Necessity of Partnerships Make the Difference

Partnerships make the Difference

The necessity of partnerships became even more apparent to me this week. Our ability to partner within MYS and our capacity to engage youth, families and other agencies ensures we are creating a holistic plan that focuses on the physical, social, cultural, emotional and spiritual well being of our youth.  This approach of wrap around services guarantees better outcomes with our priority focused on engaging youth in the process of identifying and evaluating plans.  Youth voices must be heard.
MYS has many partnerships all of which enhance and fund our programs. Partnerships create increased numbers of opportunities to improve educational, social and cultural outcomes.  It truly takes a village to raise a child .

I met with Marymound's cultural program, Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre, Canadian Mental Health Association, End Homelessness Winnipeg, Blue Thunderbird Family Care and Department of Families for the purpose of celebrating existing partnerships and attempting to discover new ways to collaborate. It was reassuring to hear about the interest in exploring new opportunities.

Celebrations were another theme this week as Coach 1, Coach 2 and APH team members hosted events for youth and their families.  It was a pleasure to witness the acknowledgments of the accomplishments of the youth and their excitement as they received the accolades.  The smiles filled the room and the pride from all in attendance was overwhelming.  APH hosted the annual BBQ and Pow Wow on June 22.  The food was plentiful and the drums beating lifted our spirits as we watched the youth dance in their regalia.  I watched as neighbours heard the drums and were drawn to the community club.   I would like to thank the team members that planned and prepared for the celebrations.  It was a proud moment for MYS.

The future is full of uncertainties but we must keep the focus on our youth, creating partnerships that will support and encourage them to be proud of their true selves.  MYS will need to adapt and continue adding to our list of partners as we strive to meet the diverse needs of our youth, focusing on creating an environment where they can grow and flourish.
