The Weakerthans and Thoughtful Touch Support MYS
April 22, 2009

The weekend of April 17th to 19th featured three events that brought together a number of companies, individuals and organizations to help improve the lives of youth in our community by supporting Macdonald Youth Services (MYS).

“Many children and youth we see have been seriously and negatively impacted by grief, trauma, and loss at very young ages,” said Dr. Erma Chapman, Executive Director of MYS. “By coming together, we are supporting MYS emergency services like the Crisis Stabilization System and the Youth Resource Centre. These services address the needs of youth and strongly help them work towards positive goals of family, education, employment and community involvement.”

On Friday and Saturday, The Weakerthans held two concerts at the Burton Cummings Theatre. As part of their Rolling Tundra Revue tour, the band, and their label, Epitaph Records, decided to give back to their hometown and donated a portion of proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales to MYS. Other companies, including Epiphone Guitars, Winnipeg Limosine Service, Confusion Corner Bar & Grill, Rogers, CityTV and HOT 103 helped by providing raffle prizes and publicity for the events.

In addition to these exciting shows, the weekend ended with the chic Fashion Brunch Fundraiser at Delta Winnipeg Sunday afternoon. Thoughtful Touch hosted the event, and proceeds from the ticket sales and auctions were donated to MYS programs. Frank Lyman, whose designs were showcased, and Panache Models were just some of the groups who made the event a huge success.

“This was an incredible weekend for youth in our community!” said Sean Crawford, Manager of External Relations for Macdonald Youth Services. “Everyone came together and had a great time supporting MYS through these events. Having such strong companies and individuals come on board really helps and spreads awareness of MYS programs. We especially want to thank The Weakerthans and Thoughtful Touch for their dedication to this cause, and we look forward to working with everyone again as we continue to grow futures for Manitoba youth and families.”
