Macdonald Youth Services is holding our Annual Spring Fling event on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Paterson GlobalFoods Institute at Red River College. We will be honouring Andrew McLean with the Sir Hugh John Macdonald Memorial Award. The Sir Hugh John Macdonald Memorial Award is presented annually to an individual or individuals who demonstrate values of respect and fairness and practical assistance towards youth.
Andrew McLean is no stranger to the world of “giving back” to community. Being raised in a home that embodies this spirit, examples were set at an early age. In addition to fundraising for charities such as the Children’s Hospital and the Terry Fox Foundation, Andrew is the co-founder of “Soldier On” a successful and much needed program that uses sports as a rehabilitative tool for soldiers with physical disabilities. Feeling the need to promote post-secondary education, MacLean founded the Canadian Torch Foundation that establishes post-secondary scholarships for people with physical or developmental disabilities across Canada.
After retiring from a career serving his country in the Canadian Forces, Andrew continues his education and giving back to the community. After several tours of duty, receiving numerous awards of merit and, distinguished commendations, he is currently enrolled in the Disabilities and Community Support Diploma program at Red River College.
Andrew McLean is an inspiring and innovative leader and encourages others to do more. Mr. McLean is a true example of how one person can make a difference.
Tickets are $100 a person and can be purchased by contacting Philipa Caplan at (204)949-6519 or firstname.lastname@example.org. All proceed will be in support of the MYS Education Trust Fund.
