September 15, 2008
Philipa Caplan, a longstanding employee with MYS, celebrated her 60th birthday in September 2008. Friends, family and MYS employees made a monetary donation to the agency in Philipa’s name. When deciding how to distribute the funds within the agency, Philipa entertained the idea of setting up a fund in her name to both honour her commitment to MYS and to commemorate her 60th birthday.
MYS is delighted to announce that the Positive Alternatives for Youth Program (PAY) has been presented with the Celebrating 60 Philipa Caplan Fund. Philipa, in cooperation with MYS, established this fund to honour the efforts and dedication of outstanding volunteers in the PAY Program and to recognize and encourage the valuable services performed by mentor volunteers.
A portion of the Celebrating 60 fund will be awarded to a volunteer mentor that has completed at least 125 hours of commitment to MYS’ PAY Program while the balance is presented to the PAY Program.
The funds will be used by PAY to support program initiatives. The volunteer mentor is encouraged to use the cash award any way they choose. The fund will be awarded, for the first time ever, to a volunteer mentor, during Volunteer Appreciation Week in April 2009.
If you are interested in applying for the Celebrating 60 Philipa Caplan Fund fill out an application form available at all MYS campuses. The annual deadline to apply is March 31st.
